When should I contact a removal company?

We suggest four to six weeks prior to your move date. The earlier we are advised of your move the easier it will be to accommodate your requested date.

Do you move just one or two items?

We can arrange a local moved within the Greater Wellington area, we can also assist you with removals of single items within New Zealand.

What happens when you come to my home to provide a quote?

One of our staff will arrive at your home to complete a full visual survey of your items. Once completed we will calculate the cubic capacity and any other charges related to your move and will forward a full written quotation to you.

Should I pack or get the removal company to pack for me?

Many of the damages caused during a removal are due to incorrectly packed or poor quality cartons used. We recommend our staff pack your effects as this will alleviate a lot of potential stress. If however, you wish to pack yourself we suggest you follow some of our helpful tips on this site.

What happens if we want to store furniture?

We can offer containerised storage in our own Storage Facility in Paraparaumu which is secured and alarmed and monitored. It is also Insurance approved/registered with the major providers.

Can you transport our plants?

Moving plants can be risky and whilst we cannot take responsibility for their final condition, we are happy to move your indoor and outdoor plants but please don’t water them before the move.

Is my move going to be expensive? Is there any way of saving costs?

Although Kāpiti Removals are proud of our service that doesn’t necessarily mean we are expensive. Saving you money is important to us and there are a variety of factors that affect the costs of a house move. It may be that you only need us to move the large or awkward items. Planning and being organized are the best ways of lowering costs.

Do we need to empty our Fridge/Freezer prior to moving day?

Yes you will need to remove all of the items from your Fridge/Freezer. If we are doing the packing we will leave a separate survival carton for you to travel separately.

Do you disconnect Fridges, dishwashers and washing machines?

It is your responsibility to disconnect the appliances, some contemporary Fridges will require a plumber. We are packers and movers and not plumbers or electricians.

Do you disconnect and reconnect the TV and sky recorder?

It is your responsibility to disconnect your electronics including Sky decoder and computer. You may need to get an installer to set up in your new place, failing that get an 8 year old!

How do you calculate the cost of a removal?

We appraise the volume of the items, the crew required to do the job, travel and the access of new and old addresses, and the time it will take at both ends

Can you dispose of items and furniture that we don’t want?

Yes we can depending on the condition we can arrange for a delivery to a charity shop or remove the items to the rubbish tip (tip fees will apply)

What do I do with my old CRT Television?

We know, it looks perfectly good but nobody wants them, you literally cannot give them away.

You will need to take to a recycling point and pay the disposal fee, we can do this as a priced part of your quote.

Are all of the charges included in the price?

When you receive a quote from us that is what you pay except if there are other factors such as waiting to gain access to your new address or the move is larger that what was identified at the time of the quote.

When do I pay? And how do I pay?

Please pay on or before the removal day or within 2 days of invoice date - if you wish to be invoiced please let us know before your removal day. You can pay by cash or Cheque or internet.

Do you empty garages and garden sheds?

Yes we do, but please have a good look and a sort out before hand, there may be restricted substances and unpackaged items which may take extra time to move.

Do we need to empty items containing flammable substances?

It is a legal requirement for us that you do this.

Do you remove Trampolines?

Yes we do. If they are oversized they will require breaking down to travel and access the new address, so please consider this beforehand as it will help the day go smoothly.

Can you move just our large items?

Yes, we are happy to provide a free quote for just the removal of your large items.

Does Kāpiti removals move Pianos?

Yes, we can do most Piano moves.
